Jon was born in the early 1970s and raised in a small mining town on the east coast of Scotland, in the Kingdom of Fife, as the eldest of three.
From the age of eight he was certain that life was a dream. This knowing collided with everything he was being taught by his parents, school and community.
At the age of nine he heard his friend's father saying that you can't stop your thoughts. He knew this to be untrue but did not know why or how he knew this, similar to many other old wisdoms he was aware of but which no one spoke.
From this young age he also battled with a powerful anxiety. He set out to find the root of this fear and to find the secret which would turn his dream-like experience of the world into one which was real. Years later Jon came full circle into a deep and embodied knowing that our world is a dream. He used this as the foundation for his many years of deep insight practice and final resolution into the enquiry 'Who am I?"
Over the following decades, from his late teens into his thirties, whilst quietly and persistently pursuing his existential enquiries, he followed the path that society presented for him. The importance of this part of his life became clear much later. Having excelled academically at school he studied a degree in actuarial mathematics and statistics in Edinburgh. Soon after he became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and took to his career in the world of finance. He married and divorced. He became a father to three incredible children. Life happened, as it does to us all, as he pursued his journey of deepening understanding and embodiment of what it means to be living in joy, freedom and bliss. Through this time in solitude he experienced spiritual highs. As with any highs, the world of polarity brought with these highs the many desolate, empty and hopeless dark nights of the soul.
In the last decades he worked at executive and board level as chief risk officer, helping large and complex financial institutions safely navigate through the various global economic crises occurring over those years. His method of working in these roles was distinctly counter-cultural. He relied heavily on his instinctual knowing of the causes of suffering and how the world of finance follows from this condition.
He resigned from his board directorship in order to step fully into the second half of his life. He is here, now, diving deep into life in partnership with his beautiful wife Kirsty. He shares his personal distillation of the world's greatest spiritual teachings applied to the challenges we face in today's world. This comes from a place of deep connection to that which is in all of us, is us, and at the same time is beyond our comprehension.
